About Kenny Lewis

Kenny Lewis, a Danville, VA native, is the founder and current Executive Director of the Danville Church-Based Tutorial Program. The youngest of five, he received his education through Danville Public Schools, graduating from George Washington High School in 1976.

Kenny’s athletic prowess earned him a football scholarship to Virginia Tech, where he was later inducted into the Virginia Tech Hall of Fame for both football and track. After graduating in 1980, he was drafted into the NFL, playing four years with the New York Jets before retiring in 1984.

Returning to Danville, Kenny dedicated over 30 years to education within the Danville Public Schools, serving as a teacher, coach, principal, director, and Central Office Administrator. Since retiring from Danville Public Schools in 2014, he has continued his commitment to the community by working with local nonprofits.

Kenny is the visionary founder of several key organizations, including the Danville Boys & Girls Clubs, the Danville Church-Based Tutorial Program, and Better Together Faith-Based non-profit.

Accomplishments

  • Inducted into the Danville Register & Bee Hall of Fame
  • Inducted into the Virginia Tech Hall of Fame
  • Voted Citizen of the Year by the Kiwanis Club
  • Received the Service Above Self Community Award by the Rotary Club
  • Co-Chaired the Bond Referendum Committee for the city of Danville, which secured $141 million in revenue for school renovations.
